Comprehensive Advanced Hospice Palliative Care Education (CAPCE)
Through a variety of learning strategies the nurse is challenged to identify issues impacting persons and families living with progressive life-threatening illness in each of the domains outlined in the model and to engage in therapeutic encounters that can facilitate a change in the illness experience of the person and family living with a life-threatening illness. Through classroom participation and the practical application of the process of providing care (assessment, information sharing, decision making, care planning, care delivery and confirmation), nurses gain expertise in building therapeutic relationships. Incorporating a mentorship and coaching role into the program promotes transfer of knowledge and skill to practice at the bedside. Development and implementation of a project designed to enhance delivery of hospice palliative care within the employing agency / facility assists individual nurses and organizations in their aspirations to deliver exemplary Hospice Palliative Care.
The Fundamentals of Hospice Palliative Care is a prerequisite for the CAPCE Program.
